A Ukrainian class in social entrepreneurship: highly educated people also need to build competence

In autumn 2025 a dedicated Ukrainian class started in social entrepreneurship, with backgrounds ranging from professional opera singer to psychologist.

The class came about simply because the programme received many qualified Ukrainian applicants, while several of them needed language support.

In a normal study week the students first attend the Norwegian teaching. The following day the same teaching is repeated with a Ukrainian study consultant present to help them understand the content. Language courses are offered through Folkeuniversitetet, and additional support teaching is available, because learning in a new language is demanding.

“Students can experience academic mastery and social belonging while being included in Norwegian society,” says head of studies Thommy Andreen.

The students want to contribute to society both in Norway and in Ukraine, and for many the education is also a route into Norwegian working life and community.
