Hoping lived experience will gain greater recognition across European higher education

As the Erasmus+ project SEKEHE nears completion, it has already produced concrete changes at KBT Vocational College and at the participating European universities.
SEKEHE, funded by Erasmus+ and started in autumn 2022, works on giving knowledge by experience a structural place in higher education through processes of co-creation. KBT Vocational College takes part as an expert partner.
An international gathering of experts by experience was held in Trondheim in autumn 2023. It led to a standing international group that meets online to discuss roles and challenges — meetings that are planned to continue after the project ends.
One work package developed a student support format. In a pilot seminar at KBT, former students guided current peer support worker students in exam preparation and study techniques. Thirteen students took part, and feedback showed high satisfaction.
“On a European level, I hope experiential knowledge becomes a more recognized and integral part of university-level education in health and social care,” says lecturer Vebjørn Ørsjødal.
